Is it true that hybrid cars actually cause more damage to the environment in their life cycle than normal cars

O2 Bartender asked: I thought I heard that the manufacturing of the hybrid system including it’s batteries does more damage in the long run than a regular car. The batteries also go through a long manufacturing process as they must be shipped to various places around the world.

I’d like to know – How much they cost How much it cost to fuel them How big they are – e.g could you put a bicycle in the trunk/boot? How long they last for compared to normal cars Thanks!
