I've bought several new and used cars and paid thousands for extended warranties. Never got a dime's worth of value from them. wait, I had to have a radiator replaced in a car I bought in 1990, so I guess I got $400 out of one of them. I'll never buy one again.

That maintenance plan is a complete waste of good money. You did the right thing by refusing to buy it.

Every new car comes with a full warranty from the manufacturer. That's all you need.

You can, but why would you want to. The dealerships sell them for a reason...profit. They usually run about $100 a year...that's three oil changes every year. Most people only get 2...so you're just wasting about $60 bucks a year.

beware of the maintenance plan let me explain.. if you buy a new car and its gauranteed for one hujndred thousand miles. but it says that the gaurantee in not valad unless you have the dealer service the car every three months... stay away from this.. insist that the gaujrantee be valid if you do your own maintenance.. example i have a lincoln.. its a ninety three.. old .but i have over two hundred thousand on the engine.. and i changed the oil every three thousand myself.. getting back to way i say that.. what if you have to pay the guy two hundred every three months to keep your gaurantee. thats no good.. so beware of what is said.. ok gilermo

Yes.the car sales man will always offer you a maintenance pkg.financed into your payment.you did good by not accepting it.just bring it in for the warranty check up.but if you are not good at getting the basic maintenance of the vehicle done oil change, tire rotation fluids check, then I suggest seeing what type of maintenance programs your dealer has.

Usually yes,
If we are talking the warranty, than yes, most of the time you can purchase it after you've driven it home... usually you can purchase the extended warranty up until the original factory warranty runs out.

If we are talking an oil change plan or scheduled maintenance plan offered by the dealer, I'm sure that if you called them up and said you had a change of mind, they would attempt to accomodate you.

I think there are third party insurers for vertually anything. They might require a "check up" but then again they might be a better deal than the dealer offers too. Dealers aren't noted for "good deals" anyway, on anything.

Really, why should a dealer get $20,000 to sell a car?

Check it out. But expect dealers will not like you. (PS: don't tell my family I said that, we are in automobiles...)

No, as long as you have the basic bumper-to-bumper warranty it shouldn't be a problem. If the dealer gives you a hard time just contact the corporate office for the automaker... And don't let them tell you that it is all of a sudden a lot more money. There is plenty of mark-up in warranties and they are 100% negotiable (accept for Scion-who has set pricing).
