The answer is very much dependent on the age and mileage of the car. With a new car of decent quality, I expect to go the first 60 to 75k miles with nothing more than oil changes, one set of tires and a battery. So, for 75k, 15 oil changes @ $50 including tire rotations=
$750, 4 tires for $320 including mounting and balancing, one battery for $65. Add $100 for air filters, wiper blades etc. The total is $1235 divided by 5 years (15k per year = $247 per year. If you have an older car and higher mileage, it will be much higher and very difficult to budget. For most people who are not able or willing to do any of their own maintenance, I believe the lowest cost plan is to buy a new small Toyota or Honda and keep it at least 6 or 7 years. The payments will be less than the repairs on an older or a lesser car.

About $100.00 every three months ,Oil change Tire rotation lube wipers ETC.this will only be an average but if you set aside this much each year $400.00 when you do have a problem you will have the money if needed If you follow your maintenance schedule you can take the money you save and when you trade your car for a new one you might have extra cash in hand.
