I am planning on buying a used car in California and wondering if I have to pay Sales tax on the purchase?

Besides sales tax what are the other taxes / fees while buying a used car in California?

You will pay sales tax at the dealership. If you buy it private sale, you will pay sales tax when you register the vehicle.

Yes, you pay sales tax on all transactions.

You’ll also need to pay for the registration, smog certification (if it hasn’t been done).

I dont know. But ask them to give you a Carfax report, or run one yourself to see what the background of the car is. A lot of ” flood cars” ( ie Katrina ) are still being cleaned up and sold, with various related problems. I hope you get a decent vehicle.
