My sister and I just bought a new car in August and my nephew who sells us all our cars says it is very important to adhere to the scheduled maintenance. In Canada there is no charge for this, you are under guarantee.

My boss has a Ford Expedition with 220,000 miles and has only changed the oil, filter, plugs and wires, still running strong. Im sure noty every car or truck will give you this kind of dependability (especially if its foreign, lol), but i think as long as you dont drive like it like you stole it, some of that dealer stuff can be put off, not ignored.

Compare what the dealer sent, with what your owners manual recommends as dealers will pad services to make a few extra bucks. Some of the extra recommendations are OK and good to do but some are just fluff and BS. To keep your car in good condition you should do at least the recommended services in your owners manual at the correct mileage and time intervals and use the severe service schedule.

for a new car it should be part of a warranty and maintenance should be done on any vehicle but at a dealer ship it is to also help continue any warranty with your purchase

if you want your car to last longer than a few months you car needs to be serviced every three thousand miles. every 3000 you need to have your oil changes as well as the oil filter, and the suspension should probably be lubricated as well. other scheduled maintenance can include coolant flushes, fuel filters, air filters, and various other fluid changes. to enjoy your car for the maximum amount of time possible and to get the greatest resale value possible you need to keep your car well maintained.
