What happened to the electric cars in California?

by Cars & Motorcycles
May 7th, 2009

They seemed like they were really pushing and fighting to get some electric cars going in California back in 2001 or so. What happened? Did the federal govt stop it or something? why?
yeah I am sure they were not perfect back then, but imagine what advancements could have been made in 7 years of building more and more of them? Who killed this idea?
Why was the electric car killed? by whom? why? details please.

Will electric cars ever be available for the middle class?

by Cars & Motorcycles
May 6th, 2009

Electric cars really intrigue me. It seems that they may be the way to solve or at least help a huge amount of issues with environment, oil dependency….. But, the ones that are actually practical (can go over 30 MPH and farther than 30 miles on a charge) are just way too expensive for most people to actually purchase. Does anyone have the inside scoop on the future of these vehicles? Maybe some links that I have not found?

Who are the clowns in congress we need to fire so we can have electric cars?

by Cars & Motorcycles
May 5th, 2009

Oil companies invest in car companies and vice versa – isn’t that a conflict of interest, whereas it is to each others benefit for cars to get poor gas mileage for last one hundred years while all the rest of technology improves? Congressmen invest in oil and therefore national security at risk because they enact laws that cow town to mid east oil monopoly. Electric cars fix the war, fix the environment and fix our dependence on foreign noose around our necks. Does anyone agree this is a no brainer?

Can anyone tell me why people think there is no benefit to energy consumption by using electric cars?

by Cars & Motorcycles
May 5th, 2009

There seems to be a lot of people who think it’s just transferring energy from cars to the grid. If it was a 1 to 1 correlation, why not just use gas generators instead of the grid? See how silly? Plus think of all the stuff made overseas that we wouldn’t have to buy to maintain them, and the net energy gain therein. Yes, there are problems – it still costs energy to make electric cars, and battery tech is still not as environmentally friendly as we want… Still not enough reason not to try IMO, prove me wrong.
Okay, there IS something missing in that we are all tied to a loser grid thingy that we supposedly can’t control. That’s the end of the plan though, cut the grid – and you’re right, I got tongue/type tied about the generator statement – I mean that …

When will electric cars have common power supply for quick exchange?

by Cars & Motorcycles
May 4th, 2009

If there where a common battery pack for electric cars, then the spent batteries could be exchanged at a station like cars currently stop at gas stations. With the e/car range problem solved, there’s NO reason to pursue other technologies and the gas powered personal vehicle can die a quick death! Can somebody pass this on to Elon Musk?

What is the point of hydrogen cars when the hydrogen is produced by electric?

by Cars & Motorcycles
May 4th, 2009

And the electric (electrolysis) produced by coal/oil/nuclear/etc why not just have electric cars with a nice clean electric motor.
Batteries could be swapped at petrol stations so no need to wait.
Electricity also comes from solar.
I think industry is tooled up for the internal combustion engine petrol or hydrogen and are unwilling to change.

Is there some one out there that can design and produce and sell electric cars for the public?

by Cars & Motorcycles
May 2nd, 2009

remsonbuilt asked: When I was a kid in the fifties there were electric milk cars /floats delivering lots of crates of milk, to the houses in the city.up the hills and down.they were powered with ordinary car batteries.they had a lot of weight on them, but they had no problem going.quiet and no pollution.where are they today?electric cars are the future, and I do not see why our government can’t invest in this technology and set up factories to produce and sell to the world before some other western country does.Just because we might be at the forefront of some other leading technologies doesn’t mean we have to stop there, does it?
