Hybrid cars are no more hazardous than any other car.
If you are thinking about a hybrid & want to know more, go to:

also please see my previous answer about hybrid SUVs for other valuable links....I don't want to type it all over again so I'll copy & paste it for you here:
***********************copy*********************************

I am going to suggest the Escape & I'll give you some factual links to back me up.

I am all about getting the most vehicle for the least money, so this is one of the reasons why I would choose Escape.

Here you can compare the obvious 4 Hybrid SUVs:...
(scroll all the way down for all the details & specs)
I've excluded the GM Hybrids (including the Saturn Vue Greenline) because they are all "Mild" Hybrid as opposed to the Ford (Mercury) & Toyota (Lexus) which are "Full" Hybrid.

If you don't know what I mean by Mild & Full , here's the link to explain:...

Based on my 'value oriented' opinion, you'll save yourself $10,000(+?) even if you get the most "loaded" Escape...
Other "Values" to consider:
Federal tax incentive for Escape Hybrid is $1900 (4X4) & $2600 (FWD) . Toyota & Lexus federal tax incentive is less than half that!
Maintenance costs are less with Ford than with Toyota.

People CAN & ARE getting consistantly 40 MPG with the Escape by useing the following "tips" :...

Lastly, you should know that Ford actually reduced the Hybrid price by $1000- (06 model vs 07 model) & is offering LOW financing & rebates.
to see what incentives Ford is offering in YOUR region:

& my FINAL reason for suggesting this vehicle is :
I ♥ AMERICA
(remember that regardless of where a vehicle is assembled, ALL profits go to the Homeland of the manufacturer)
American owned auto manufacturers (GM & Ford) contribute to Americas economy in more ways than I can list here!

I am guessing you are talking of environmental hazards and/or materials that may be released in an accident. These would be no worse than any other automobile. There is more danger of electrocution than any other problem. You would really have to work at it as all high voltage points are labeled and at least double insulated. Always wear insulated gloves when working on or near high voltage componants.

I think the main hazard is battery problems, specifically the release of toxic fumes when in a collision.

I don't know of any sites, but I know when they get into wrecks it's possible for the battery to explode, or something to that extent.
