Your owners manual woud make a good fire (if it was bigger)! It is almost useless, as all it tells you is how to turn things on!

It depends on what you know and how much you want to (or can do), - if novice starting from "square 1", you can probably can find a book at library that tells you things like how to open the hood and check the oil and other liquids etc! Even the owners manual mentions them,-- possibly not telling you really how to do it though!

If you are talking about maintaining the vehicle, ---go to AutoZone (or other "fine auto supply stores), - and buy yourself a "Haynes Auto Repair" Manual, cost $20 or less, just get one that covers your model and year automobile! This is the "best of the best" manuals, and covers literrally everything on car except transmisioin, - even has wiring diagrams in back! Has step by step instructions, and ilustrations so that you can see what things look like, and understand how they work, - so you can check,- repair, - or change parts (within your understanding ,and abilities -- and tools available)!>>>> Even if you decide not to do certian things, - you will at least know what is involved--- and have a reasonable idea what it is about, -- which makes it a little harder to harder to "pull the wool over your eyes" should you run into somebody that would do that! -- Also it will help you to resist letting them "load you up" with things you don't really need for a particular job! Not all the mechanics or garages ar trying to "rip you off", - but I have been "mechanic-ing" for over 55 years and have seen quite a few!I --- Also ended up streightening things out after they "fixed them",-- in order to make car useable!

Most likely, you will not be able to do everything on car youreself to begin with.-- This will build with experience and confidence! So check around and see who appears to be doing best service for customers, - the cheapest charges are not always the cheapest repairs,-- they may not do good job, charge for parts they didn't replace, of miss vital repairs till the problem ends in disaster! Sometimes it is cheaper in ling run to pay a "little extra" and know the job is done right (and everything is now reliable) !!

Hayne's is the first D.I.Y. book that crosses my mind. The second being Chilton's. However, if you're truly wanting the best, go to the car dealership and purchase the repair/maintenance book for that year for your particular car.

Just google for it.
