Where do I begin to have a new engine put in an old car instead of buying a new car?

Where do I buy a new engine. How much are they? How long will it take to have one installed? I do not want to buy a new car or find a different one. People take advantage of women who are looking for cars.

You won’t find a “brand new” engine. You have three choices mainly:

1 Used engine from salvage yard. Not the best idea, No guarantee how long it’ll last or if it’ll be any good.

2.Have your engine rebuilt.

3. Get a remanufactured engine. Most shops can get you a remanufactured engine. This is a used motor that has been rebuilt.

Call around to a few shops in the area and get some pricing. You may find however, that a replacement engine and labor will be more than the car is worth.

You’re absolutely right. People, especially mechanics, seem to take advantage of women thinking they don’t know anything about the car they’re driving. I myself am a young woman with an F-350 diesel truck and I used to work in an automotive shop. I happen to LOVE my truck and have looked into getting a new engine myself as it has over 243,000 miles on it and is still going strong.

You may be able to get a NEW engine for your car from some place like Schuck’s Auto Supply, but it will have to be special ordered. Plan on spending several thousand dollars, because the labor to take out the old engine and put the new one in can run close to a thousand more on top of the engine itself. Also, when you get the new engine, you should think about investing in a new transmission as well.

You can also get a factory re-built engine for cheaper, especially if you have an older model car. You can call Schuck’s or even the dealership or your local junkyard and see if they have anything that would work for you.

Once you have the engine, it can be a job that takes a few days, pulling the old one out with an engine hoist and installing the new one, but it shouldn’t take longer than that.

I hope this helps you. Sounds like you love your car as much as I love my truck. :)

Go to an Auto Wrecker and ask them how much for a good engine.Ask,has it had a compression test. All cyl.should be 100lbs. or so and kind of even on all cylinders.
And then ask the fellow your going to buy the engine off of,if he knows someone who can install it for you at a decent price,Pay the auto wrecker yourself for the engine. But do not,I repeat DO NOT PAY THE GUY WHO’S DOING THE INSTALLATION UNTIL ITS FINISHED AND RUNNING PROPERLY.

most places do take advantage of women when it comes to automotive repair so if you can get someone else to look into it for you you probably be better off, depending on the car model and engine that needs replaced the most common price is between 2000 and 3000, I have had quite a few replaced where I work and they use jasper motors and they have been a good motor haven’t had any problems with them yet, but of coarse they are for pickups but a motor is a motor.
Most of the time you can expect a couple of weeks depending on how busy the shop is, and there are allot of things that you ought to do to the engine before you have it put in the car, it will cost you a little more but it is money well spent and that is to replace all the hoses and spark plugs and wires and new water pump and thermostat and to also have the radiator cleaned and flushed and pressure tested that way when you get your car back you should be trouble free for some time, but if I were you I would look for a shop that has Jasper motors , and I would get a brother, husband, father or cousin to look into it for you so you won’t get ripped off.
